It’s the spiritual successor of the C6 limousine

While getting better and better at creating chic, comfortable crossovers, Citroën also works on a flagship model to tackle the large saloon segment with, Autocar reports.

It doesn’t have a name yet but, as CEO Linda Jackson stated, “what it won’t be is a new C5.” It’s not that the C5 wasn’t cool enough for this segment (strong sales figures confirmed its desirability) but there’s a stronger card to play here: the C6.

Although not as successful as its smaller sibling, the C6 was a modern Citroën with strong ties with the past: through its vanguardist design, the C6 was impossibly good-looking and complex enough to suit France’s president.

The looks and the comfort are the main two attributes the new Citroën flagship revolves around. There isn’t any depiction of it yet but we can take a look back to the 2016 C-xperience concept for visual hints.

“Like all concept cars, it was made to test reaction, and the car will evolve. But — and I know I’m biased — I love it. It will inspire the production car and it gave a view of a luxury flagship without any of the traditional cues of chrome, leather or lacquered wood. […] It had an air of the slightly avante garde that will make it into production. It can also be the showcase for our ideal of redefining comfort, in terms of the interior and the ride and handling balance using our new Advanced Comfort suspension.” Ms. Jackson told Autocar.

The Advanced Comfort suspension — which features “progressive hydraulic cushions” at each end of the dampers — is already here. All we have to do now is take another look at the pictures above and hope the future Citroën flagship won’t stray away from the C-xperience concept. The new car is set for launch in 2019 or 2020.
